The Danish town of Brande is building a new cultural and educational centre that will change life in the town for years to come. The completion of the building does not mark the end of the project, but is a stage on the way and sets processes in motion. Candy Lenk’s work, FREMTIDENS FUND [Future Finds] connects to these processes that have been started. In the work, periods before and after completion are considered and a connection between the past and the future is established via hybrid fragments.
The sculptures are historical finds laid out, suspended in place like archaeological fragments in an exhibition. The broken edges refer to the lost wholeness. But the works also have characteristics of new components and are related to the building. So they also stand for the future, the possible expansion of the building, the continuation of history, for the not yet completed thought or the wild reverie. The sculptures are also a promise to the future, waiting for their use and new idea that will redeem them and lead them to their purpose.
